Front man for the progressive Irish band,U2 is finding himself, and his anti poverty organization, ONE in a heap of hot water. It appears the singer who champions evading taxes is doing just that. It also appears that people who work there are not getting taxes taken out of there salaries.
With big time lefties backing Bono’s cause like Tom Hanks, George Clooney and the like, the last thing anyone from Hollywood needs is another sexual harassment scandal, but that is what One has on it’s hands as well. It appears that workers were asked to sleep with politicians in Africa, workers were also made part of lewd and unwanted remarks and advances. It also appears that workers were verbally and physically mistreated.
Bono, whose band U2 came on the alternative progressive New Wave scene in the early 80’s hit the charts big with songs like Bullet The Blue Sky, Party Girl and Bloody Sunday, were seen as a pro socialist band, some even thought they backed the Provisional Irish Republican Army. Over the years, Bono sung about Martin Luther King, Desmond Tutu, and often lectured us about our government and our wrongful ways of the world. He wrote songs like New Years Day about Polish solidarity and In The Name Of Love about Martin Luther King and the Kennedy’s. His song verbiage honored the left and demonized the right.
After a long and prosperous career, he wanted to help with AIDS in Africa. He went to then president Clinton who promised him whatever he needed but delivered nothing. Bono was impressed that George W. Bush delivered on his promise, however, funny years earlier at a concert in Boston, he called the white house and asked to speak to George H Bush. I guess the gag was supposed to be funny in liberal Boston.
What now appears to be many bad things happening at once to ONE, sex scandals, tax evasion, actors who now need to run from supporting this organization because the #me too movement is picking up momentum and they will not want to be in the middle of scandal by association.
What started out as a good idea looks like it will maybe fold, or lose it’s non profit status. Bono has always been both ignorant and arrogant. I have always disliked this guy, not because he was a liberal but because when he was interviewed he always spoke like he knew better then us. A radio DJ said it best one morning on 102.7 in the 90’s, she said ” I don’t like Bono, he knows it all, just ask him”. What most offended me was that he came her and told us what was wrong with us and people stupidly bought his albums. Instead of looking at his own countries problems, he had too much to say about Africa, Europe and the U.S. He was another musician, like McCartney, Shanad O’Connor and John Lennon that had to much to say about the U.S. and the world. To musicians I say, like I do to actors, just shut up and play.
